How is Prorated Rent Calculated?
There are a few ways to calculate prorated rent, but the most common method in the United States is based on the number of days in the specific month.
- Step 1: Divide the monthly rent by the total days in the month (28, 29, 30, or 31) to get the Daily Rate.
- Step 2: Multiply the Daily Rate by the number of days the tenant will occupy the unit.
Tip: Always confirm the calculation method in your lease agreement, as some landlords use a "30-day banker's month" regardless of the actual calendar days.
